I’m the best kept secret in my industry—

3. NOT! Everyone I want to know about me thinks I’m the bees’ knees.

2. It’s a slog. I get the occasional good “press,” but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. I’m always struggling for clients.

1. How did you know?!

I don’t manage my money very well. I seem to spend it as soon as I make it.

3. Wrong. I have plenty of money to spend on my team, my business, and myself AND a cushion saved up. No problems here.

2. What the actual f***?! I budget so carefully. Still whenever I finally make some extra, an unexpected bill comes in. Why me?!

1. That’s me. I know better, but as soon as I get some money it’s gone. On the next training. Or a useless ad buy. Or that gotta-have outfit. What’s wrong with me? I know better!

I have a book idea I know will support my marketing and take my business to the next level, and—

3. It’s going gangbusters! I’ve already written, published, and gotten it out in as many places as I can think of.

2. I’m working on it, but can’t seem to finish. It’s sooooooo slow. (And did I mention that it has to be perfect?!)

1. I’ve got an idea, but that’s all. Why bother? Who would want to read anything I’ve written?

I struggle to ask for more money for what I do.

3. Are you kidding? I’m making top dollar, and worth every penny of it. If I want more money, I just raise my rates, come up with a new product, or add on some extras for a markup. Easy as that.

2. I have trouble getting my prices out of my mouth, even though I know what I do is totally worth it.

1. Everyone has been telling me to raise my rates—for years. People love what I do and think I’m practically giving it away.

I often get in my own way, delaying taking action in getting myself or my product or service out there, until I have another training or certification?

3. Why would I do that? Sure, I’ll get more training where that will make a difference, but I know what I have is valuable right now.

2. I sometimes catch myself doing that. I have more certifications and letters after my name than anyone I know. Funny thing, though—it never makes much of a difference for my business.

1. I’ve got a room full of “shelf help” that I’ve never finished. I know down deep that this is just my favorite way to procrastinate.

When I think about speaking from a stage, what comes to mind is—

2. It makes me break out in a cold sweat. I’m not sure I could do it, although I’d like to be able to.

1. Kill me now! I can imagine no deeper level of hell to go through.

When I think about reaching a bigger audience, I think—

3. I’m exactly where I want to be already. I’ve got more followers than I know what to do with.

2. If I get out there in a much bigger way, they’ll criticize me. Or judge me. Or mock me. Or see that I’m really stupid. Or . . .

1. NONONO!! It’s not safe. They’ll attack me!

I can’t count on having consistent income.

3. Yes I can. I know what I’ll be making each month and how my revenues will increase. My business has never let me down.

2. It’s like I’m on a rollercoaster with my money. Whenever I have a great month, the next month I have a big drop. Then it’s a scramble.

1. Consistent income?! I wish. Some months I can’t count on having much of any income.

There’s a cap on how much I can make in my business.

3. Hell no. There’s always a way to make more if I want to, like creating a new offering or finding a new market.

2. Sort of. Between increases in costs and inflation, I’m not sure I’m actually making much headway when I raise my prices.

1. I make the same amount every year, almost down to the penny. It’s amazing.

I don’t make as much as I know I’m capable of.

3. Hah! I’m killing it. The money is rolling in, and I know down to my toes that I’m providing HUGE value to people.

2. I’m okay, but . . . It seems like all my efforts only lead to slight improvements or short-term gains.

1. My company makes just enough to cover expenses. And not even that some months. I haven’t had a vacation in 3 years!

My reaction when thinking about being one of the big thought leaders in my industry is:

3. Hell, yeah! In fact, I’m not just going to be one of the thought leaders. I’m going to be THE thought leader!

2. I’d like to, but then I think “Who do I think I am?” I’ll just share what I have and change a few lives each year in my own small way.

1. Are you kidding? Me?!! Never in a million years.

I should be doing videos to market my business, and—

3. I get them done like clockwork, and love the results.

2. I just can’t seem to get going. What would I say? What kind of lighting do I need? Where do I upload my videos? It’s too much to think about.

1. Never going to happen.

When it comes to making decisions for my business—

3. I’m on it. I look at the available information, then I go with my gut. My gut is never wrong.

2. I’m okay except for one big decision. It’s causing a huge bottleneck, but I just can’t do it. It drives me crazy.

1. I just can’t seem to come to any decisions. I look at all the pros and cons, ask for everyone’s input, and then get stuck. I’m driving myself and everyone else nuts!

I sometimes have thoughts that I’m just not good enough. Or that I don’t deserve to be more successful.

3. Wait. That’s a thing? Who would ever feel that way?!!

2. I second guess myself a lot. I sometimes think I should just give up and go get a job.

1. The truth is, I’m a fraud. Somehow I convinced people that I can do this, but I feel like an imposter. And someday they’ll find out!

When it comes to hiring a team (including employees and contractors)—

3. I have a great team already. I can really count on them. If I ever need to take a week—or year—off, they’ll totally pick up the slack.

2. When I hire somebody, it often doesn’t work out. They sound good on paper and in the interview, but then they let me down.

1. I’m not going to hire anyone. Ever. I can do everything! Of course, I do sometimes wonder why I never have enough time to do more networking. Or create that new program. Or . . .
