Use This to Find Out If the Patriarchy is Preventing Your Profitability

Do you have an old patriarchal rule getting in the way of making, keeping or managing your money?

In the video I identify several, then walk you through a way to test each one to see if it’s in your subconscious:

Women often have an outdated rule or two about money from the Patriarchy rattling around in their subconscious.

Messing with their profitability.

Pretty much any rule that has “a man” or “men” in it probably has its roots in the Patriarchy. A really common one is “I shouldn’t make more than a man.”

You might also find the Patriarchy behind any rule that contains “a woman” or “women.” Like “Women can’t handle money well.”

Then there’s my favorite, “I should be taken care of by a man.” This one has tripped up more independent, confident clients than any of us ever expected.

Now, none of these powerful women consciously agree with any of these sexist, misogynistic statements.

They reject them. Absolutely.

But there they are, hiding out in their subconscious.

Luckily, once we’ve found one we can tap and release it for good.

Ready to discover some Patriarchal Profitability rules in your own subconscious?

Here’s how I do that with my clients.

First, I come up with a list of possible subconscious rules that might be getting in a client’s way.

I have my client repeat each one and rate it on a scale of 0-100 percent for how true or powerful it feels. (0=no power to it at all; 100=it feels totally true, even though you know it’s not.)

The higher the number, the more powerfully it’s holding you back.

There are different ways to get your rating: (i) emotionally—”it feels 82% true”; (ii) physically—like a punch in the gut or heaviness in your body that “feels 75% powerful”; or (iii) if you’re like me, you just have a number pop into your head and accept that as your rating.

Okay, here we go.

Read each statement from this list of a few common patriarchal profitability blocks out loud. (That makes a difference.) Then give it a rating from 0-100 percent for how true or powerful it feels to you.

  • “I shouldn’t make more than a man”
  • “I shouldn’t make more than my father.” [You can substitute “my brother” or another male relative.]
  • “Women can’t make more than men.”
  • “Women shouldn’t make more than men.”
  • “I don’t need to make as much as a man.”
  • “No one will love me if I make too much.”
  • “I should be taken care of by a man.”
  • “Women aren’t good with numbers.”
  • “Women don’t handle money well.”
  • “Women don’t make good decisions.”
  • “I’m not good with money.”
  • “I don’t handle money well.”
  • “I don’t make good decisions.”

Anything that’s got a charge over 10% will slow your Profitability down. And the higher the number, the bigger the effect it will have on you.

If Coaching Didn’t Work For You In The Past…

I love working with business owners, releasing their subconscious gunk so they can have their next breakthrough in their business.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do, though.

Then it took me a bit longer to figure out how to do it.

Fear of Screwing Up

Is fear of screwing up holding you back?

It was holding my client back in spite of her already being really, really successful.

She’s known around the world in her field and has been featured on international stages.

International!

Yet the fear of making a mistake had her refusing to let her talks be recorded. Keeping her playing smaller than she could.

She was afraid of making a mistake and having it out in the world. Forever.

And she was days away from having her presentation recorded.

She’d committed.

No backing out.

And she was scared of screwing it up.

If you have a fear of screwing something up—like posting a video or doing some public speaking (which is America’s biggest phobia, by the way)—you’ve probably heard that the way to get past it is to just do the thing. Whatever it is.

Because then you’ll realize it wasn’t so terrible and you won’t be as afraid the next time.

Good advice.

And if you can just do that, then go for it!

But if you can’t just make yourself do the thing—if you’re toooooo afraid to push through—then use some tapping.

Tapping can make all the difference. (I’ve seen that happen over and over.)

Because when you’ve tapped down your fear of screwing up, you can just get out there and do the thing.

Whatever it is.

Screwing up doesn’t seem like such a big deal after all.

You’ll start thinking “If I make a mistake, so what?!

People need me to get out there.

Even if I make mistakes along the way.

So let’s get you out there in a bigger way, helping those you’re here to reach.

Don’t let fear of screwing up get in your way.

Shut Up Already, Imposter Syndrome!

Imposter Syndrome is a liar.

It needs to shut up.

Now.

Imposter Syndrome is the experience of feeling like you are not as competent as others see you.

So do you ever feel like you’re an imposter? Like you’re nowhere near as good as people are expecting?

Like you should just give up already and go do something easy so you don’t let anybody down?

I experienced Imposter Syndrome big time when I started at law school. Oh so many years ago.

Looking at the hundreds of students around me, I thought “They deserve to be here. Not me. I got in by mistake. Harvard’s going to figure it out any minute and show me the door.”

(That actually happened to someone once! More about that in my video.)

Turns out that a lot of my fellow law students, particularly the women I talked to, had the same feeling.

Eventually we got over it and decided that maybe we deserved to be there after all.

But sometimes the strategy of waiting until you get enough experience won’t work.

So what do you do when Imposter Syndrome keeps you stuck?

An incredibly accomplished woman came to me for help getting moving on her career. She was a star in her graduate program, where her professors expected her to become an influential muckety-muck in the world of therapy for autistic children.

She was passionate about the work. Excited to get started.

And two years later she was totally stuck because…

Imposter Syndrome.

If Imposter Syndrome has you questioning whether you’re really good enough to do what you’re capable of—and maybe even called to do—know that you don’t have to give in to it!

Take action.

Even if you stumble along the way.

Even if you’re not perfect. (And who is?!)

What you do is valuable even if you don’t feel good enough, way down deep.

And if you can’t get started, or you drag your feet, because of the lies Imposter Syndrome is whispering in your ear, let’s talk.

The world needs you to step up.

Do what you’re here to do.

Don’t let Imposter Syndrome stop you.

What To Do When Your New Year’s Resolutions Fail

Yep. It’s that time again.

Time to make your New Year’s resolutions. Maybe you plan to . . .

  • Finish that training you bought
  • Create your on-line course
  • Network more
  • Whatever it takes to grow your business to the next level.

You’re going to do it this time Right?!

And you start out strong. But then, in six months—Or six weeks. Or six days. Or six hours!—you find you’ve given up.

(Been there. Done that. Gave up on resolutions completely for awhile.)

But why? Why do we give up when it’s so important to us?

Well, what I’ve seen over and over again is that when your resolution goes against something in your subconscious—even if your subconscious is being irrational, illogical, or just plain stupid—your subconscious always wins.

No amount of willpower can push past your subconscious for long.

It just wears you down until you give up.

Three types of subconscious blocks I’ve seen a lot of are:

  • A belief that you need to do (or avoid) something to stay safe.
  • Others’ limiting expectations of you.
  • Seeing yourself in a limiting way. (Check out the video for examples of what each of these looks like.)

So what do you do if you can’t seem to follow through on your resolution?

Well, the fastest way to change I know of is to uncover your subconscious block and tap to release it.

If you don’t know how to do that (or you don’t have a tapping practitioner to work with), what I’d suggest is to create a daily tapping practice with your resolution. Here’s how:

  • Set aside at least 5 minutes every morning.
  • During that 5 minutes, visualize yourself taking the action you’ve resolved to take AND getting the results you want.
  • (And, most importantly) Tap while you visualize.

Tapping whittles away at the underlying fear, limiting belief, or whatever.

So it gets easier to follow through on your resolution and, eventually, create the “new you.” And new and improved business.

No willpower required.

I know how frustrating it is to be able to see in your mind the life you want to live, but hold yourself back when it comes time to create it.

You Are Not Lazy!

I get it. I know how frustrating it is to just simply want to finish one thing that we start—one of our projects. One of our marketing initiatives. One of the programs we’ve bought. 

And yet, you’re afraid you’re just going to do what you always do. Start strong but then switch to something else, promising yourself that you will get back to it when you have time. You’ll finish it this time, you swear! 

But you know deep down that you won’t. Because you never do. 

It’s so frustrating!

There’s a graveyard of great projects you’ve left half-done sitting on your shelf, or in your computer, or in the back of your mind. You know that finishing even one of them will move your business up a level, bringing in more clients who need your help, and making you more money. And it would be so easy to just pick one, finish it and get it out there. 

So why don’t you?

I know what you’ve been telling yourself. “I guess I’m just lazy.”  And I want to give you a hug (and, honestly, a little shake) and tell you: 

That’s. Not. True! 

You aren’t lazy. You know it. You work really hard. You are so busy doing so many things. Someone who works as hard as you do is not lazy.

So why aren’t you doing the things that will get you what you really want? 

More clients. More money. More time to yourself. 

Instead you are stuck at the same level, hoping for those things but not making them happen. 

I’ve seen this with so many clients. They come to me so frustrated that they’ve been stuck for so long. Wondering what’s wrong with them. And they’ve started to tell themselves the story that they must be lazy. It’s the only way they can make sense of why they aren’t doing the thing that will get them what they want. 

So we get to work. We figure out what’s really happening below the surface that’s been slowing them down. (It’s never been that they’re lazy. Not once in all the clients I’ve worked with.)

We tap to release the blocks that have been holding them back. Messages they internalized long ago. Messages that went in so deep, they became “Truths” that they were compelled to live by.

And as those blocks lift, they find themselves just finishing things that before would have sat on the shelf forever. It surprises them how easy it is now.

I know that you’re capable of finishing what you start. I know that you have it in you to be somebody who feels proud of your accomplishments. Now it’s time for you to know it.

And to let it be easy.

What the News Is Doing To Your Old Money Stories

Have you noticed how all the bad economic news has activated you these days? My clients and I definitely have!

All the big lay-offs, so many small businesses going under, a tidal wave of unemployment—it’s bringing up a lot of fear and feelings of lack. And it’s activating old money stories.

When that happens, our negative feelings start running the show, affecting how we show up, what we do (or don’t do), and basically messing with our finances.

I go into more detail here.

Maybe you have one or more old money stories that is getting triggered now, something like:

  • I don’t deserve more.
  • Making money is too hard.
  • I’m no good with money.
  • There’s never enough.

If so, you’re probably not enjoying what you’re seeing in your financial picture.

When you’re seeing that kind of hit on your finances, one of the best things to do is to really clear out those limiting stories you have around money so you can get back in charge. 

The best way to do that is with EFT—or “Tapping.”
