The Non-Negotiable That Totally Upgraded My Business

What are your non-negotiables? Those actions you are committed to, no matter what?

Let me tell you about one of mine that’s made a huge difference—every four weeks I take a week of CEO time.

That means no individual client sessions. No groups. No calls with potential clients.

Instead, I spend time on the big projects I can’t get to in between client calls.

This time has made a huuuuuge difference.

Now I actually get important things done that I used to keep putting off. Things that will lead to significant growth in my business. Systems that will get my time back.

There’s also time to focus on strategy, planning, and vision.

Watch the video to find out more about what a CEO Week can do for you:

When taking a week for CEO time was first suggested to me, it sounded impossible. I had to go out six weeks to be able to block off a week. Even then, I let a few non-CEO things in.

And I was only able to get myself to do it by telling myself it was just a one-time experiment.

It was amazing. I rested. I finished up projects that had been on my To Do list for months. I had creative ideas.

I got excited about my business again.

So I scheduled the next CEO Week. And the next.

Finally, I realized that my CEO Week was important not only for my sanity but also for my business. So I made it a non-negotiable.

Actually, my CEO Week got established much quicker than I thought it would. I just had to make the decision.

Today I want to inspire you to create your own standards. Your own non-negotiables.

This is your business. You are either creating it on purpose or by accident.

You create your business “on purpose” when you have non-negotiables, like setting aside CEO time.

It happens “by accident” when you allow others to carve up your schedule with their own priorities.

CEO Weeks let me create a business and life that leads to more freedom and fulfillment. That supports me so I can show up completely for my clients.

I’d like to help you create that for yourself, too. It will look different from mine, but it will be supportive and right for you.

So . . .

What do you dream of? What are the non-negotiables you want to incorporate into your business in the next 6 months.

  • CEO Week? (Or a CEO day every week?)
  • 4-day workweeks?
  • No more than 3 clients on your schedule per day?
  • Turning off the phone and computer after 5 pm and over weekends?

If you’re not already doing that, what’s getting in the way? Have you tried just making the decision and making it happen?

Tell me the non-negotiables you currently have or dream of having and what’s been getting in the way.

Until next time . . .

Happy Tapping!

Should You Pay For a Mentor? (And Who’s Good Anyway?)

The subject of “mentors” for business owners has been coming up a lot lately.

Specifically, should you bother to pay for a coach, teacher, guide, or guru?

Especially when there’s so much free information out there. Can’t you just figure it out on your own?

Well, my own experience has been mixed, but I find myself coming down very strongly on the side of paying for guidance in areas where you need it. You’ll get where you want to go so much quicker.

For more about my journey and the great mentors I’ve found, watch the video:

I spent many years trying to cobble together bits of information I picked up on the internet. It didn’t really get me anywhere.

Maybe because I didn’t have the full map. Or maybe because I didn’t have someone cheering me on so I’d keep moving or pick myself up when I fell.

It was only when I found a program that taught me all the steps I needed to follow—and supported me with coaching and community along the way—that I finally started growing my business.

Since then I’ve found great guides for specific areas of my business. I’ve gotten my money back many times over from what I learned from each of them.

The only area where I simply couldn’t find a guide and had to figure it out on my own was how to get rid of the subconscious blocks to success that kept me and my clients stuck. In fact, I had to do that first before I could take advantage of what my great mentors had for me.

To be clear, I had teachers who showed me how to use different Emotional Freedom Techniques. (In case you’re new here, EFT, or “Tapping,” is the main way I clear my own and my clients’ blocks.)

But I had to figure out my own system using Tapping because no one else was doing it in a way that really worked for me.

The incomparable Rebecca Kane and I worked together, trying different approaches out and sharing techniques we picked up along the way to clear our own blocks to building our businesses. She taught me techniques I’d never heard of and let me try out and refine my strategies on her.

So if you have to figure something out on your own because it’s not already created, partner with someone with mad skills to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

But where you can, do yourself a favor and pay someone to take the short cuts they already know.

Of course, you have to pick the right guides for you. I’ve been very lucky, but I’ve heard horror stories about spending big money on programs that didn’t work out at all.

Before you jump in then, follow someone to get a feel for how they work. Get their freebies, newsletters, podcasts, or low-cost offerings before deciding to work with them. And listen to recommendations from people you respected.

Here are the mentors I’ve worked with for a loooooong time and highly recommend—

  • Fabienne Fredrickson (Boldheart Business Program). You can find out more about the main program I joined to learn all things marketing and mindset at https://attraction.isrefer.com/go/bhbiz/a6181. Boldheart also has a “starter” program for those with a limited budget at: https://attraction.isrefer.com/go/bhblaunch/a6181. (Yes, those are affiliate links. If you visit Boldheart using them and eventually buy, I’ll get something. It won’t pay the rent though. None of the rest of the links here are affiliate links.)
  • Stacey Brown Randall (Referrals Without Asking). Stacey teaches a beautiful approach to getting referrals that doesn’t make me feel like I need a shower when I use it. https://www.staceybrownrandall.com/ will get you some of her freebies. Definitely sign up for her newsletter to get her weekly podcasts. I have her Growth by Referrals program.
  • Kiva Shuler (The Heartful Business). Kiva is spending her energy on her passion these days—getting great training to parenting coaches—but you can see some info about her marketing stuff at https://theheartfulbusiness.com/home.
  • Alina Frank. Alina is an EFT/Tapping trainer extraordinaire. If you want to learn how to Tap, get on Alina’s newsletter at https://www.tapyourpower.net/. It comes out twice a month and tells you where her next trainings will be.
  • Rebecca Kane. Rebecca teaches you how to trust your intuition. She is a psychic-medium who has an interesting way of making the spiritual/woowoo very accessible. And she has the best newsletters! Sign up at: https://www.capacityforgreatness.com/.

Hope that’s helpful.

Happy Tapping!

It’s Hard Right Now—I Hope These Make It Easier.

A lot of people are struggling.

If you’re not—if everything is going great for you right now—that’s wonderful!

But life is still hard for many people, so if that’s you, please know that you’re not alone.

It isn’t just what we’re going through with the pandemic. There are a lot of people going through really hard times now for many reasons that the rest of us don’t know about.

And I know that it’s hitting business owners in all kinds of ways, both personally and professionally.

So…

I’ve got three things to tell you about that I hope will help.

Watch the video for all the details:

First of all, here are two free opportunities:

  • Free tickets to a 3-day virtual retreat starting Wednesday, May 12, 2021. If you’ve been thinking about writing (a book, articles, emails, even better social media copy) and want to leverage what you write for more impact and money, you’ll get powerful training at the Writing for Impact retreat.

I’ll be one of the speakers on Friday, so you can come as my guest. Get your ticket at https://saraconnellcoaching.lpages.co/grant-spring-retreat-opt-in-page/

  • Three free tap-along videos to shift common blocks. You’ll get these when you take my Uncover Your Success Blocks quiz for business owners and find out where your subconscious success blocks fall—in Mindset, Visibility, or Profitability.

    Take the quiz at https://unblockresults.com/qz.

Finally, I’m holding a Quickstart Session day next week on Tuesday, May 18th.

I rarely offer these sessions, but I’ve set aside six 45-minute slots for people who have never worked with me before to come in and tap one-on-one with me.

My specialty is releasing subconscious success blocks that hold entrepreneurs back from what they want for their businesses, like more clients, more visibility, and more money. I’m happy to work on any of those, of course.

But for this day, you don’t have to be an entrepreneur. And you can work on anything you want. (Well except for mental health issues. The Law won’t let me do that.)

I’m offering these QS Sessions at a much reduced price. Usually they’re $347. On the 18th, they’re $97.

If you want one, just reply to this email. I’ll let you know what times are available and send you an invoice.

So the sooner you decide, the more times will be available.

(If you’re a current or former client, maybe someone you know could really use this right now. Please feel free to forward this email to them and tell them why you think working with me could help.)

Please take me up on whichever of these calls to you.

Until next time . . .

Happy Tapping!

Do You Have Success Blocks?

I’ve been off the radar for a few weeks finishing something I’m really excited to tell you about—the Uncover Your Success Blocks Quiz!

This easy quiz helps business owners recognize where you have subconscious blocks to success.

Success blocks are those things that I’m always talking about and tapping on with clients to release so they can have the next breakthrough in their businesses.

You’ll find out which of the three areas you have the most subconscious blocks in:

  • Mindset—believing in yourself and knowing you’re capable of doing more.
  • Visibility—reaching a bigger audience. And
  • Profitability—making and keeping more money.

Once you’ve taken the quiz (which should take less than 5 minutes), you get access to three free videos I made to tap along with and start shifting a common block in each area.

Watch the video to find out more about what’s in those free tap-along videos!

I’d love for you to take the quiz and get the Tap-Along videos.

Just go to https://unblockresults.com/qz/ to get started.

After taking the quiz, in addition to getting your raw quiz score you will receive a guide for interpreting your results and a link to 3 videos I recorded to help you understand your success blocks—and what you can do about them—followed by a handful of follow-up emails to encourage you to take action! You’ll also start receiving my weekly-ish email newsletter if you aren’t already (you can unsubscribe at any time, of course).

Subconscious success blocks hold so many business owners back from reaching their potential. It breaks my heart to see them missing out both on the kind of business and life they could have and the impact they could have on others.

Please take the quiz.

See if you have some success blocks holding you back.

If you do, then get started shifting them right away by tapping along with the videos.

Happy Tapping!

The Three Internal Blocks Most Women Face

Women leaders have a lot to contend with out there in the world that male leaders don’t—cultural expectations, laws, even violence.

Those external blocks definitely have to be changed!

But what holds most women back more than anything else is their internal blocks.

The subconscious rules and beliefs they’ve internalized that have them stop themselves before they ever come up against any external block.

Have you noticed you stopping yourself?

I definitely know I’ve held myself back at times.

What I’ve found from working with many women business owners is that these internal blocks fall into three categories.

  • Mindset—how you see yourself subconsciously as a leader. Do you know you deserve to lead a great team and have your voice heard? Or do you find yourself settling for what’s “good enough?”
  • Visibility—how you show up. Do you let yourself speak and write powerfully and consistently in your networking, on stage, and on camera? Are you letting others see the real you? Or are you hiding by trying to do things the “right” way?
  • Profitability—this covers all things money. Are you making the kind of money you are capable of and your peers seem to bring in easily? Do you manage it well, or does it seem like you can never get ahead? Do you use your money to grow your impact?

(That’s why I started my MVP Club for women leaders, where we release blocks in those three areas.)

Monday was International Women’s Day.

I did a short video celebrating and talking about how we need more women leaders now, how women hold themselves back in these three areas more than men, and what to do about it.

Watch the video here.

If you have any blocks in any of those three areas, please know this.

You are here for a reason.

You are needed now more than ever.

Because no one can do what you do in the way you do it.

So if you find you are holding yourself back, pleeeeeeease find someone to release those blocks.

You know me. I’m big on using Tapping to get rid of internal blocks, but if Tapping’s not for you please find another modality that works.

You don’t have to be stuck with internal blocks holding you back.

Be the leader that the World needs you to be now.

Happy Tapping!

What Does Success Look Like For You?

How do you define success?

As one of my clients reminded me, it’s important to get clear on what success means to you. Otherwise, you’re going to be chasing somebody else’s dream, not following your own.

Here’s how she turned her back on the conventional view of success, and the two questions that can help you define it for yourself:

So don’t just listen to the next “guru” who says—

You need to make a certain amount each month to be successful.

Or build a following of tens of thousands of people on FB.

Or write a book.

Or launch an online program.

Or anything else.

Get clear on what “success” looks like for you.

What you truly want.

To figure that out, ask yourself two questions:

What do you want your life to look like? Do you want to speak to thousands around the world? Make a ton of money? Work less and spend more time with family? Or something else?

What kind of legacy do you want to leave? Do you want to set your family up financially to follow their dreams? Train a small group in a method you’ve created so it lives on after you’re gone? Or . . .

Clients have come to me to release blocks to knowing what they want. Once a block was gone, they could go after what they wanted. (Their version of success.)

But let’s be clear—Tapping freed them up to know their own heart and mind.

I didn’t tell them what they wanted. Or how to be “successful.”

They decided for themselves.

You get to do that too.

So don’t let anyone else tell you what success is.

Not even me. 😉

I firmly believe that, the more you follow what calls to your own heart, the more of an impact you will have.

Whatever that impact is meant to be.

That’s how you become the leader you’re meant to be.

That’s the leader the world needs now.

And that’s true success.

I’d love to know what success looks like for you. Please shoot me a message or email me at Nancy@UnblockResults.com. Tell me what calls to your heart.

Until next time . . .

Happy Tapping!

If Coaching Didn’t Work For You In The Past…

I love working with business owners, releasing their subconscious gunk so they can have their next breakthrough in their business.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do, though.

Then it took me a bit longer to figure out how to do it.

Watch the video for the whole story.

Over the course of my journey, I figured out how to help clients for whom regular coaching just wasn’t enough.

With plain-vanilla coaching, those people would still procrastinate.

Or self-sabotage.

Or take action with the wrong energy.

And that would lead to poor results, no matter how motivated they were.

(Can you relate? I know I’ve been there.)

But when we used Tapping to figure out what was getting between them and their dreams and release it, they finally started getting the results they wanted.

So cool.

I wanted to share my story in this video so you could see that, even if coaching hasn’t worked for you in the past, it doesn’t mean that you’re stuck.

Stuck repeating the same old patterns.

Over and over.

Nope.

A bit of Tapping may be all you need.

It’s all my clients needed.

Happy Tapping!

Fear of Screwing Up

Is fear of screwing up holding you back?

It was holding my client back in spite of her already being really, really successful.

She’s known around the world in her field and has been featured on international stages.

International!

Yet the fear of making a mistake had her refusing to let her talks be recorded. Keeping her playing smaller than she could.

She was afraid of making a mistake and having it out in the world. Forever.

And she was days away from having her presentation recorded.

She’d committed.

No backing out.

And she was scared of screwing it up.

Watch the video to hear more.

(Spoiler alert: she did great!)

If you have a fear of screwing something up—like posting a video or doing some public speaking (which is America’s biggest phobia, by the way)—you’ve probably heard that the way to get past it is to just do the thing. Whatever it is.

Because then you’ll realize it wasn’t so terrible and you won’t be as afraid the next time.

Good advice.

And if you can just do that, then go for it!

But if you can’t just make yourself do the thing—if you’re toooooo afraid to push through—then use some tapping.

Tapping can make all the difference. (I’ve seen that happen over and over.)

Because when you’ve tapped down your fear of screwing up, you can just get out there and do the thing.

Whatever it is.

Screwing up doesn’t seem like such a big deal after all.

You’ll start thinking “If I make a mistake, so what?!

People need me to get out there.

Even if I make mistakes along the way.

So let’s get you out there in a bigger way, helping those you’re here to reach.

Don’t let fear of screwing up get in your way.

Happy Tapping!

Why Imposter Syndrome Strikes Women More

Imposter Syndrome (that feeling that you’re not as capable as others see you) really seems to hold women back more than men.

Why should that be?

Well, I have some theories.

Watch the video for the full exploration of why women seem to struggle with Imposter Syndrome more than men—
where it comes from and why it’s so persistent.

From my own experience with clients, I’ve seen it come from personal experiences:

  • There was the client whose parents made it clear she was not supposed to outshine her brother.
  • Then there were the clients who created their own businesses after being passed over for promotion in favor of men one too many times.
  • And far too often, there was the implicit message (especially from their mothers) that they should not speak up, be seen, or stand out, that led them to doubt themselves.

There’s also the messages we’ve all gotten from growing up seeing boys and men in leadership roles in schools, sports, TV and movies, companies, government….

Well, you get the idea.

And all of these experiences set us women up to doubt ourselves, hold ourselves back, and step aside to let men do the leading.

That has to stop.

We need women to lead now more than ever.

(Look, I love men and happily work with some wonderful men who are doing important work in their lives and the world. But this message is for women.)

It’s time to step back from the competitive, Us v. Them, Win/Lose approaches that have brought so much suffering and limitation.

And I think women leaders are the answer.

So when you feel like you are called to do something bigger in the world, but you hold yourself back because you feel like you’re not good enough to do that, or someone else would be better, or “they’d find out you were a fraud” if you tried . . .

Don’t listen to that feeling.

It’s just a young part of you that learned that you were supposed to stay small so you’d be safe.

Staying small won’t really keep you safe. (You know that.)

It sure as hell won’t bring about the change that you are called to make in the world.

That only you can make!

And if your Imposter Syndrome is particularly loud and hard to ignore, tap on its messages. They aren’t true, and Tapping can help you realize that.

Because we need you to show up fully in the world, being the you that you are truly meant to be.

Happy Tapping!

What I Learned about Imposter Syndrome from Getting Slapped Upside the Head By the Universe

Two weeks ago I talked about Imposter Syndrome.

Last week, the Universe laughed at me.

Watch my video to see what I learned from my own bout of Imposter Syndrome.

It was the beginning of a 24-hour virtual event put on by Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs.

I figured “I’m an alum of the law school. I started my own business. These are my people!

Boy, was that not how it felt.

As soon as I walked in the virtual “room” it hit me. These are real entrepreneurs. They are creating new apps. Talking to angel investors. Launching businesses they’ll sell for gazillions.

Not me. I don’t belong.

I’m a fraud.

And they’re going to find me out.

Look down on me.

Laugh at me.

Wow.

So I said my goodbyes and left quickly.

Let me be clear. Everyone I talked to was lovely. This was me. I was the one telling myself I didn’t belong. Telling myself I wasn’t good enough.

It was a total inside job.

Frankly, it was embarrassing.

I’m in the middle of exploring how Imposter Syndrome hits women leaders especially hard and explaining what to do about it.

Just do it anyway, I’d said. Eventually you’ll realize you are good enough, I’d said. And if that’s too hard, then just tap, I’d said.

I had it figured out.

And there I was. Totally caving to my own Imposter Syndrome.

So I took my own medicine. Went back into the event the next night. (I felt much better.)

I posted about my experiences in Facebook and was overwhelmed by the support I got.

Watch the video for the whole embarrassing story.

I learned a lot from this experience that I want to share.

First, it’s normal to feel like a fraud sometimes.

Second, many really successful women feel like an imposter sometimes. Having the feeling doesn’t mean you are not successful or capable of success.

And most importantly: if you feel like an imposter, know that it is not true.

Please don’t give into that feeling.

The world needs you.

Happy Tapping!
